Eleftherios Petrounias is a Greek Olympic medalist who competes in the the discipline of still rings.  He was born on the 30th of November 1990. His height is 1.64m and weight 62kg.

His most important distinctions: 

  • 3rd place at the European Championship in Berlin (2011)
  • 1st place at the Mediterranean Games in Mersin (2013)
  • 1st place at the European Championship in Montpelier (2015)
  • 1st place at the European Cup in Baku (2015)
  • 1st place at the World Championship in Glasgow (2015)
  • 1st place at the European Championship in Bern (2016)
  • 1st place at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (2016)
  • 1st place at the European Championship in Cluj (2017)
  • 1st place at the World Championship in Montreal (2017)
  • 1st place at the European Championship in Glasgow (2018)

  • 3rd at the World Cup in Ghent (September 12)

  • 2nd at the World Cup in Cottbus (March 12)

2012:

  • 1st at various World Cups and Challenge Cups
  • 5th at the European Championship (May 27)
  • 1st at the Challenge Cup in Ostrava (November 21)
  • 1st place at the FIG World Rankings at still rings

2013:

  • 1st at various World Cups and Challenge Cups in Ghent, Ljubljana and Osijek
  • 5th at the European Championship (May 20)
  • 1st place at the FIG World Rankings in still rings

2014:

  • 2nd at the Challenge Cup in Cottbus
  • 3rd at the Challenge Cup in Osijek
  • 5th at the European Championship in Bulgaria (May 25)
  • 1st at the Mediterranean Games (June 24)
  • 6th at the World Championship in Nanning, China

2015:

In February the responsible committee of the World Gymnastics Federation named a specific drill of still rings after Eleftherios Petrounias.

He himself performed this specific drill at the European Championship in Bulgaria.

  • 1st at the European Championship in Montpelier (April 18)
  • 1st at the European Cup in Baku (June 20)
  • 1st at the Sompateli Grand Prix accumulating 16.200 points (best performance of his career)
  • 1st at the World Championship in Glasgow with 15.800 points (October 31). By winning the World Championship he got directly qualified to the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games

2016:

  • 1st at the World Cup in Qatar (March 25)

On April 21, the world champion of Gymnastics became the first torchbearer at the Olympic Flame Ceremony for the Olympic Games in Rio.

  • 1st at the Olympic Games in Rio accumulating 16.000 points (6.800 difficulty και 9.200 execution)
  • 1st at the European Championship in Bern with 15.866 points. With this distinction he became the first still rings athlete in 20 years to hold the European Champion title for two consecutive years.

2017:

  • 1st at the World Cup in Baku (March 18)
  • 1st for the third consecutive year at the European Championship in Cluj, Romania (April 22)
  • 1st at the Challenge Cup in Paris (September 17)
  • 1st at the World Championship in Montreal. He held his title for the second year in a row, an accomplishment that only 8 extraordinary athletes have achieved

2018:

  • 1st at the World Cup in Baku (March 24)
  • 1st place at the European Championship for the 4th consecutive time (August 12)
  • 1st place competing at the World Championship for the third time. With this historic success he becomes one of the three gymnasts in the history of artistic gymnastics conquering three gold medals in one discipline.
